Accurate and Reliable Functionality

AGORA's real-time monitoring and simulation system enhances any SCADA/EMS with a whole set of new functions.

Under Normal Network Conditions:

One of AGORA's chief system advantages is an enhanced feature set for day-to-day network management. These robust features have a two-fold impact:

  • AGORA provides the operator with a set of high quality tools based on the same cutting-edge mathematics that make our load flow and state estimator powerful and accurate.

  • AGORA puts operators in continuous contact with the system, so when difficult situations occur, they will be completely familiar with the system and its maneuverability. AGORA provides:

    • System Overview - Specialized displays give operators a global view of actual system conditions, and are a natural complement to the SCADA interface. Information is acquired directly from the field or from the powerful state estimator.

    • Optimization Tools - The accuracy and reliability of AGORA's Load Flow algorithms enable the optimization of network operations. Optimal Power Flow minimizes system losses, reactive recycling or other parameters, even near voltage collapse.

    • On-line Simulation - A simple and robust simulation environment provides testing of contingencies, clearances, defense plans, and/or any system operation strategies designed by network operators. Based on our powerful, proprietary load flow algorithm, these tools make it possible to study network conditions and the impact of proposed changes to various network parameters, including topology.

    • AGORA Training Simulator (ATS) - By obtaining “images,” estimated real-time snapshots of an on-line network situation (state estimation output), AGORA can generate a reliable historical database of cases for off-line or on-line study. The study mode allows network operators and planning engineers to test hypothetical solutions for accuracy and plausibility using AGORA's Powerful Load Flow algorithm. A dedicated part of the ATS system makes training easy, helping operators master the system under all conditions, including an impending collapse.

Under Disturbed Network Conditions:

Perhaps AGORA's most powerful tool is its capability to generate accurate and truly useable restoration plans—a unique feature unmatched in today's market.

When a disturbance is detected, whether a topology disturbance, a large black-out or small system variation (under-voltage, over-load, etc.), AGORA offers:

  • Field Alarms Information - Field alarms are filtered and analyzed. Operators are presented relevant restoration information, while the system automatically accounts for equipment availability, current system capacity, etc.

  • Variation Control - AGORA recognizes and provides solutions for under voltage, over voltage and over load conditions, preventing disturbance from occurring in the first place. Remedial actions, including optimal load shedding and automatically calculated PV and QV curves, are provided.

  • Dynamic Restoration Optimal Plan - AGORA recognizes disturbances and provides operators with those operation plans (breaker operation, active and reactive generation, tap changes, etc.) that need to be performed to bring the network back to its normal state. The optimal sequence is always proposed. As the situation changes, real-time monitoring triggers the generation of new on-line plans.

  • Hierarchical Restoration - Facilitates coordination with neighboring systems.

  • Review and Edit of Intermediate Steps - Since AGORA employs fast and reliable load flow calculations, it is able to verify all intermediate steps of a proposed restoration sequence. AGORA allows the operator to create, edit, and review his own plan.

  • Automatic Reporting - Automated reports can be triggered at regularly scheduled intervals or by events, and customized to meet specific needs.
